I have since edified myself with Wiki and with songs played from Regina Spektor's website. I have learned reams about her and something called "anti-folk." The fact that the opposite of folk music already exists and is known as "rock music."

But I digress.

So I read her Wiki, did some research, and listened to the songs on her website. I must unfortunately say that sagien is wrong. Regina Spektor's music isn't bad.

It is the worst I have ever heard.

That's really saying something. Worse, even, than Theodore Grimm.

As for whether I would have sex with her, well... I'm not that discriminating.

if they sound different, they get criticized. if they sound like someone else, they get chastised all the same. she may not be great, but she's not all that bad. she has a unique sound, not easily likeable, but unique. and she didn't just pop out of thin air; she's been in the business for about as long as some of those people on that list and has quite a cult following (excluding me, though).

as for her song, i think it's safe to say she probably didn't get much say into choosing the single. i guess that's what happens when you sign a contract. hey, it happened to john mayer and "...wonderland" and more recently, "daughters." but at least he won a grammy for it.

but after all that objective dribble, i'd like to say that i think that song is pretty weak, and i wouldn't poke her with somebody else's dick.

hm. i happen to love regina. i think she's brilliant. however, her earliest stuff is the best. her best album ever is called "11:11" but it's out of print b/c it was her first album and she made it w/o a label. it's downloadable though. it doesn't sound anything like "soviet kitsch" or "begin to hope" in my opinion. i like "11:11" better than the rest of her stuff b/c it sounds more jazzy and not so folksy. i think "begin to hope" was a product of her label trying to market her to mainstream audiences...it's definately not my fave.

Maybe you should give Regina another listen, (I suggest U tube because she gives a stellar live show) because I like most of your list and I think Regina happens to be brilliant.
